Alex Ramirez
Dr.
Alex Ramirez, BSc., MSc., Ph.D., is an Assistant
Professor at the Sprott School of Business,
Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
He is member of ACM, SIG-MIS, SIGITE, SIG-ECOM,
InForms, Information Systems Society, AIS, and
BIOPoM. He is Associate editor of IJSKD, the
International Journal of Sociotechnology and
Knowledge Development, and JIITO, the Journal of
Information, Information Technology and
Organizations.
Alex main research interests are the evaluation
and adoption of emerging information
technologies in organizations. He promotes the
sociotechnical approach within information
systems, and is working towards a greater
understanding of the phenomenology of
information. He is currently working with some
of his Sprott colleagues in a project in the use
of Blogs in the Wine Industry; the adoption of
Web 2.0 tools in learning infrastructures, and
knowledge sharing in organizations using blogs.
Work experience includes several administrative
positions at ITESM (Instituto Tecnológico y de
Estudios Superiores de Monterrey) the largest
private university in Mexico, partner and
product development director of a small software
company specialized in Computer-based training
in Montreal. Consultancy experience includes
international projects such as deployment of an
Information and Communications technologies
network at the University of Havana, Cuba, and
development of Data Warehousing projects in
Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Alex has taught extensively in undergraduate
programs, but also teaches at the graduate level
in the Ph.D. program at Sprott and in several
masters programs in Sprott’s Masters Management
Studies and MBA programs (Carleton University),
John Molson’s MSc. in Administration (Concordia
University), UQAM-ESPOL’s MSc. in Information
Systems, and ITESM’s MBA.
